Sensei Roberto Portocarrero, originally from Managua, Nicaragua, is the newest addition to Aikido of South Florida as the Chief Instructor of our Jiu-Jitsu program. Sensei Roberto has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 15 years and is a certified black belt from Gracie Barra. Throughout his many years training BJJ, Roberto was afforded the opportunity to train with many of the top BJJ teachers in the world such as Marcus "Conan" Silveira, Ricardo Liborio, Marco "Parrumphina" De Matta, Dustin "Clean" Denes, and Christiano Dantas at Gracie Barra, from whom he received his black belt.
Sensei Roberto's goal is to see his students reach their fullest potential inside and outside the dojo. He feels Jiu-Jitsu is a journey and his vision is to help navigate his students through the adversities and joys in their lives. Sensei Roberto believes it is a complete martial art that works on your body, mind, and spirit.
Although Jiu-Jitsu is defined as the "Gentle Art", it can be physically and mentally challenging; however, with Sensei Roberto's experience, he will guide his students to become successful BJJ practitioners.
In addition to his BJJ experience, Roberto has also attained a Bachelors degree from the Ayurvedic College of Well-being and currently provides Ayurvedic consultations to a wide variety of clientele. Roberto is also a certified yoga instructor who has been teaching for over 10 years, during which received his 500 hour certification as well as holding a NASM certification as a personal trainer.
