That's it!
Aikido of South Florida is a Traditional Japanese Martial Art School in Downtown Hollywood that has been established for over 25 years and is recognized as one of the oldest Aikido schools in South Florida.
Aikido of South Florida was founded by Stephanie Yap Sensei who holds a 6th degree black belt and the Menkyo Kaiden in Aiki-Ken and Aiki-Jo, awarded to her by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei, 9th dan. After graduating from the School of Engineering and Design in Miami, FL, Yap Sensei became a long-term uchideshi (live in apprentice) to Morihiro Saito Sensei, Japan, one of the highest ranking and most prestigious aikidoist in the world. This initial training has subsequently been enhanced by annual training sessions in Japan, accumulating numerous years spent living and training in Japan and establishing her position as the highest ranking female in the organization.
In addition to her regular class schedule, Sensei Yap has provided seminars in Korea, Mongolia, Scotland, Germany and South America, to name a few. She has also instructed the Hollywood and Ft Lauderdale Police Departments and the Fort Lauderdale S.W.A.T Team in series of seminars formatted towards their specific needs.
For several years Yap Sensei has had the privilege of being involved with Aikido Humanitarian Active Network, a non-profit organization serving underprivileged and charities worldwide.
Through her association with AHAN, her seminars have managed to raise over $25,000 for food, medical supplies and other provisions for charities worldwide. These establishments include Children with Cancer, Children's Burn Centers and Orphanages. All the proceeds raised from Yap Sensei's seminars affiliated with AHAN are directly provided to the organization. Through these humanitarian efforts she has realized, first hand, the power of using Aikido as a tool to make a difference in the world.
